A few questions about giving salt
Jul. 5th, 2003   7:35pm

My daughter is a severe salt waster. Our endo had us giving her 1/4 tsp salt throughout the day, but since she’s no longer taking a bottle it’s been hard to get her to take it. Today I just put the 1/4 tsp in some water and after it disolved I gave her 3 ml. I tasted the water and it is pretty salty but she really seemed to like it.

With salt wasters, they won’t get dehydrated when taking salt will they? I think I read that they don’t but I can’t remember.

If she is craving salt will she be really cranky? As soon as I gave her the salt she really quieted down. She’s 4 months old and when she wouldn’t nurse I gave her the salt and she’s really calm now. Could the salt have helped?

How much salt should I give her at one time? I figured if I gave her 1-3ml applications throughout the day that would be fine. I just don’t want to give her too much in one day. Although now that I think about it her endo wanted us to give her 1/4tsp every day so it can’t be too much.

I am kind of confused on the matter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
