When I was traveling to Canada earlier this year I found an excellent travel guide at some of the rest areas on the way. It includes a map and listings of most of the places to visit all around New York.  I’m not sure how you can obtain a copy but you can try calling 800 CALL NYS (This number was listed for travel and lodging information.)  or you can visit their website at: iloveny.com .  It’s worth keeping it at home even if your not planning to travel again at the moment.
