BetsyThey pretty much all lead to bone loss---the corticosteroids naturally leach calcium. My last bone density was at 11% loss and while I don’t do fosamax, do take calcium citrate (the other kind gives me horrible leg cramps, as did the fosamax)
I’ve asked several people--doctors--along the way whether it is possible to take too much and each answer has been no. Most vitamins, calcium included, are way over the RDA and the excess gets excreeded in the urine. If it puts a strain on my kidney, I’ll take a kidney stone before a broken bone.
As with Aimee, I too wish someone had shared the bone loss issue with me before I broke my body in an accident several years back. It was only after that incident, which included a broken pelvis and 8 months in a body brace healing, that someone bothered to say, "Oh yea....about those drugs you take everyday..."
