Hi Laura-I know what your’e going through!  Our school nurse is wonderful too.  I had the endo write a letter that basically describes my daughter’s condition, along with instructions on how to handle an emergency.  Then the endo wrote a prescription for the injection or extra meds by mouth, so the RN could administer them.  I asked the nurse not to wait for me to get to the school-and Iv’e explained to my daughter that the school nurse will give her the extra pills or injection if she needs it, then Mommy will come.  Her emergency meds always accompany an LPN on a field trip, who also knows what to do.  When my daughter had a fever at school, the nurse called me, and I had her give extra Cortef by mouth, then I picked her up.  So far (knock on wood), we never experienced her needing the shot at school.  She has always been with me when she needed it.  And Iv’e given it, several times now.  Also, my daughter is in the "inclusion" class at school.  Our inclusion classes accomadate children in the special ed program, without being separated.  Even though my daughter does not have learning difficulties, her ocassional mood swings related to the meds can affect her behavior, and it helps to have a little extra attention.  The inclusion classes have a special ed teacher and an aide, plus a smaller class size, in addition to the teacher.  I feel reassured having this extra support.  Good Luck!  I’ll be thinking of you.

Pamela :)
