ChrisDWe have had quite an exciting month. First, Jack’s baby brother was born on August 11th. He is a healthy 8+ pounder, CAH carrier. Jack loves being a big brother.
We also had Jack’s 3 month endo visit. His weight gain has slowed dramatically. Although his blood levels, bone age and height have almost always been good, we have been struggling with his weight for years. He really packs on weight each time we increase his Cortef.
In the three months between Feb and May, he gained 10 pounds. That was the breaking point for me. We had to try something different. His endo did not want to reduce his Cortef dose, so we switched to circadian rythmn dosing (4x a day instead of 3x). After being on the new dosing schedule for just 3 months, he almost stopped gaining weight. He gained only 1/2 pound! We have not changed diet or activity levels. We have also noticed a huge improvement in his moods. He doesn’t get so tired and irritable at various points during the day. He also seems to be sleeping better. I am incredibly happy with the results.
I know there has been some debate on the board about whether c.r. dosing is effective - I cannot speak for everyone - but for my son - I am very impressed with the schedule. We will certainly stay on it. His endo has also agreed to try reducing his doseas his 17 OHP is <10.
Thank you to everyone who helped provide information about the c.r. dosing schedule!
p.s. does anyone know of a website where I can get "normal" values for lab tests? e.g. if blood glucose is 85 for a 5 year old boy 3 hours after breakfast, is that in a good range?
