AngelaI am a 34 yr old female with 21 hydrolaze deficiency (Salt wasting). I already have a 3 year old daughter who does not have CAH. Prior to getting pregnant, my husband and I did all the genetic testing. We live in Montreal Canada and were very fortunate to see some of the best Doctors in the country. (to whom we are eternally grateful!) Although my pregnancy was horrible - (I threw up 4-5 times a day for all nine months till they cut me open....) developed gestational diabetes from the large doses of dex and developed toxemia that stayed even after I gave birth. I am currently trying to do it again because it is well worth it.
My interest is in other people who have experienced pregnancy and perhaps could share their experiences. I am curious to know if anyone else experienced the same symptoms (i.e. the vomiting) and knows any tricks (i.e. dosing) that helped them. AFTER I gave birth (by C-Section, not to destroy the work of my childhood vaginal surgeries and since Labour is obviously stressful for which my doctor did not want to risk complications from my CAH) my repro endo stated that perhaps an increase of Florinef could have helped the vomiting. I am very anxious about going through that again. I wonder if all pregnant women with CAH react that way to pregnancy hormones?
In addition, while trying to get pregnant, my doctor has me double my dosage of dex in order to suppress my testosterone levels. This obviously causes me to gain unwanted weight while simply trying to conceive. (Unfortunately unsuccessfully so far this time) My sister also has 21 SWCAH and is also trying to conceive. Her doctor advised her to try to conceive while only taking her usual dosage of prednisone... My doctor strongly advised me against trying before doubling my dose for fear that viralization would occur in a female fetus before we could determine the sex as the sex organs are formed very early in a pregnancy. HELP!!!! My sister and I are both confused by the conflicting advice. I was hoping to find someone who could share their pregnancy experience. And of course I am more than happy to share mine and answer any questions because I am very fortunate in having a beautiful, healthy daughter already and I understand the anxieties of not knowing wheather or not someone with my condition could concieve in the first place.
