Hi! I have 2 daughters, aged 7 and 5, both with SSW CAH. My oldest started school today and my youngest will start school tomorrow. I thought that things were going very well- the school nurse, teachers and administration was all on board with protocal for treatment in an emergency, etc. I got a call from the nurse today and she informed me that they still had not received the consent forms from the doctor to have the solu-cortef injectible at school. As soon as I hung up the phone, the nurse practitioner from the endo’s office called to inform me that they would not be faxing the form because they do not feel it is necessary for my children to have the solu-cortef at school. I immediately thought of 100 scenarios for use at school. I could not believe what I was hearing!!!!!!! Well, I tried to calmly explain my feelings on the situation and it got me no where. The mommy bear in me came out and I really let her have it. I explained that my children would NEVER be without their solu-cortef and that they needed to send that form to school immediately or I would be in touch with a doctor who would. She did end up faxing the form to school with a note written on it that they disagree with the mother on this issue, etc. Now the school is concerned about the liability of the doctor not backing our decision to have emergency meds at school. This is a chance I am not willing to take! My girls are the most important thing to me! It seems that our doctor is great- but his nurse practioners stink! I have already stated that I did not want to deal with them. I guess it didn’t count in this situation. So I am stuck in a position where I have to decide if I should change endos. I mean, he is responsible for his staff and I am waiting for him to call me back so I can see his take on the issue (not hearing it second hand from the NP). If anyone has any input, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks for listening, I am sooooo frustrated and needed to vent.Tonia
Bless you all!
