re: Endo refusing to sign for solu-cortef at school

We didn’t have an order for solu-cortef at school until this past year.  I work at the school part-time and only live one mile away.  We finally caved when the school implemented new lockdown procedures and wanted the solu-cortef in case my daughter ended up locked down at school overnight and no one (including me) would be allowed in or out.  This, naturally, would be when she would get some kind of vomiting virus and would need a shot.

Our endo didn’t refuse to do one, but didn’t encourage it, either.   When she first started kindergarten (she’s in 4th grade now), he said, "hold off on it if you can".

I wonder why your endo’s office refused.  Have you asked their reasoning (aside from they feel it’s "not necessary")?

We held off for years because I knew once that order came to the school, life would change for my daughter.  I could never go back on it....everything I did would follow her all the way through high school.  She now has to have a nurse accompany her on every field trip (if me or my husband can’t go).  This is fine for these elementary school years when they love having mommy or daddy go with them.  Not so, necessarily, when one is in 10th grade.  In the back of my mind, I always have to remember that the day may come when she will resent this whole CAH thing...and having to have a "grown up" on all fields trips might be the last straw.

Besides...what if there IS a bus crash and the nurse is knocked-out, as well?  My daughter has  a medic-alert bracelet (FWIW), and we pray.   Pretty much covered it for us.  HOWEVER, we were gently pressured for a while...and agreed to get the order due to the lockdown policy.

Whatever.....the can of worms has been opened and now she has the nurse on field trips (which is good now, but I still think about middle and high school) and they were even wondering if she might need a 504.  (uh...no)
