CarrieI know how you feel. I have a 2 year old son with SWCAH, and I remember constantly worrying early in his life; I am much better now. My son has just recently needed the shot at home. He had a fever and vomitted twice within and hour. He was unable to keep his meds or anything else down. I called his endo and the nurse said give the injection. My mom was there and she is a nurse so she gave it, but within 15 min. he was much better. The doc called back to check on him and I said that he was acting fine, eating a little, and no fever, so he said it would be fine to stay at home, but if he started vomitting again he would need iv fluids. Carter did fine. Also, when he was 18 monthes he broke his arm. We waited until we got to the hospital which is 45 min. away to get the shot. He did fine, but if I had it to do over agian I would give it at home.
I just want you to know that you are not alone. If it was me I would probably give the injection when in doubt and head to the doc that is 80 miles away. I know her local hospital is really not up to date on things, and I do not trust them, so I always drive the extra miles.
