ValerieDHi everyone - my 11 yr old son just started middle school yesterday and have been in talks with the school nurse/principal in regards to his CAH etc. One topic came up that none of us is prepared for: a lock-down in the even of an emergency. The school nurse/teacher told me that in the event of someone with a gun and there was a lock-down that even she was to (by law) stay in her room with the door shut and locked. I asked what if this was a scenario and it went on for hours and hours, how could I ensure that my son would be able to get medicine and she was at a loss for the time being as well. With the anniversary of 9-11 just around the corner, I can’t help but think about, "what if...". Hmm, has anyone else given this much thought and if so and you have a plan already organized with your child’s school, could you please share your ideas with me as I have another meeting the beginning of next week and I’d love to be able to have more imput. Perhaps I am being dramatic, but what if they were stuck in the school all night?

PS - I don’t know if "lock-downs" constitute the same reaction across the nation, but in our school district it is clearly stated that in the event of a lock-down, ALL doors are locked, no one, ABSOLUTELY no one under any conditions is allowed in or out. Of course, wild horses would have to keep me away, but according to our school, I wouldn’t be allowed in and he wouldn’t be allowed out. Any ideas to share would be most appreciated! Thanks---
