re: School Info needed!

HI Valerie,

Hopefully, he had a good first day!!! It’s all the behind the scenes stuff that affects us parents. I am the number #1 big time "what ifer" . I would say that if there is a lockdown (which has briefly happened at my son’s school) then it would be a matter of waiting it out. I guess you would have to throw out different scenarios. What if it were a lockdown for 2 hours (like at my sons’ school when they had a suspicious car in the school parking lot). He would probably be ok if he were to get noon meds a little late. What if it were a lockdown for a whole day, like a hostage thing...well, then he would probably have to go without it for the day....I mean what else could he do? Has he ever gone without his meds for a day? If he has, how was he? I wonder about this too since I’m not planning on homeschooling and eventually I’ll have 2 in school with CAH. Who knows what will be going on by then. I wouldn’t expect the nurse to risk her life to give my son his meds and if my son could do without it for a day or so (worst case scenario) then I wouldn’t want him to risk his life trying to get to the nurse for his meds.  If it was a lockdown for longer (which I would doubt would happen) then you would have to communicate through the police, swat team or whoever is working on ending the situation to get him his meds. I’m sure that there are other kids in the school who may be in the same predicament. I wonder if the nurse could share with you what those parents suggested? Our school doesn’t allow kids to carry there meds either or they are suspended. It’s a hard situation to figure out what to do. I’m glad that I don’t have to worry about it for now. Hopefully parents like you, once you figure out how to do it, can pass the info along for moms like me who will in the future have to deal with the same problems.

Take Care,

Sandra
