Hey Lauren,
24-hour urine collections were how hormone levels used to be measured in the "old" days. I think they were given up because blood testing was thought to be more convenient and some people thought collecting urine was "yucky." However, because a 24-hour collection measures hormone levels over the course of an entire 24-hours, rather than at a specific point in time (as with a blood test), our doctor feels that it is a better way to assess control.
Fan that he is of 24-hour collections, I know that he doesn’t get them in very young kids, such as those of your daughter’s age---practically speaking, it is too difficult to collect samples. Generally, I think he waits till a child is 3-4 yo.
