robertaYou do need the injection within 30 minutes and yes it is a gradual decline but once the blood pressure drops from the low sugar and salts (lack of cortisol)... you can’t go back and fix it. You must always have the solucortef with you. ALWAYS!!
In Virginia the ambulances and not only do not carry the solu-cortef, they are also NOT allowed to give it. By law they can not administer medications (only ones allowed by law - heart meds for example... of course our law makes did not make a law to allow solucortef to be administered - they are clueless to what is CAH).
I know you situation too well. At the day camp (day care) this summer I went on two of the field trips but I could not go every week. So they decided that it was okay to just take the med kit and leave me behind. You don’t have to be a nurse to have permission to give meds - what if the nurse is on leave?
My son did okay (in preschool - 4 years old). It is very unlikely something will happen. I agree with that part of the earlier message!!
Very unlikely something will happend but the solu-cortef, extra pills are necessary. They need to take the kit with them. That is not asking too much.
