LynnTHi Natalie,
When my son was about 2 or 3 years old he became severely blocked. It was so bad that (please forgive my graphic description) we could see the big, yellow "ball" of poop that was too hard and large to come out. We put him in a "sitz bath" for a while and eventually he passed it.
Had that not worked, we would have resorted to a laxative. Believe me, he was in such pain I would have done anything to help him.
We realized that his stools were always very hard and solid. We figured out that it was due to his salt wasting and the fact that he doesn’t keep water in his body that well. This was making his stools very dry and difficult to pass. After this we made it a point to push fluids (water, juices, Popsicles, etc.). Our endo had never advised us that this was something he would benefit from but we figured it out ourselves.
He has never had a problem since "knock wood" and he is very regular now.
I hope this helps.(:>)
