My CAH son has peanut and tree nut allergies ( tree nuts are any other nut... walnut, pine nut etc... ) We carry an epi pen with us every where we go. You NEED to have an epi pen. Also, per our endo, if he has an allergic reaction not only does he need the epi pen injection right away but he also will need the solu cortef right away and it needs to be looked at as impending adrenal crisis.
Important..... a mild reaction one time does not equal a mild reaction every time. Now that your child has this allergy... you must treat it as life or death.
I see my sons nut allergy as presenting more possible risk to his life than his CAH ever did. You have to eat. There is risk every day. The foods that have labled ingredients are the easy ones. I often get an email from the food allergy network informing me of a mis-labled food product. That’s way having the epi pen around is such a good idea. There are several peanut allergy message boards on the net that have a HUGE source of knowledge and parental experience on them . Try www.peanutallergy.com . I have learned a lot from other parents there.... a lot like how much I have learned from other parents here. <smile>
