I nearly went through puberty at age 6. Fortunately, I was diagnosed just in time, and didn’t develop hair, et al, until around age 13, but I remember being interested in girls earlier than my peers. Maybe this was just me, or maybe it was the excess of testosterone, who knows? But I suspect the CAH had something to do with it. Regarding adrenal crisis, yes, I’ve had several close calls. ALWAYS make sure you carry extra medicine for your kids, as well as emergency shots for the unexpected. They truly can be a life-saver, as they have for me several times. And I would suggest extra caution whenever your children have any type of infection, however benign it might seem. I had toncilitis during high school, which developed into a peritoncilar (sp?) absess within days. My throat had nearly swollen closed, and I had to drive myself to the ER in shock. Even then, the doctors on call wanted to wait for the med students to see me, and hear my pathetic-sounding voice, before withdrawing 2 syringes of puss from my throat.Eric B.
