RistyMy son is back on treatment again. We finally did an ACTH stim test at the beginning of this week and we are now waiting for the results to see if he is already being treated well and whether he also has mild salt wasting (his sodium levels weren’t that great on his previous results).
While the child was off treatment I had the opportunity to recognize how thankful I should be for the fact that our state has CAH on their newborn screening. My son was constantly having fever and diarrhea, lost tons of weight in between, slept like a newborn, was extremely drowsy and wasn’t developing age appropriately. I shudder at the thought of how long it would take for his pediatrician to have him tested for this uncommon condition hasn’t he not been recognized at birth.
There is one thing though, that I am now having doubts about. Since my son passed a few sessions of fever and diarrhea when he was off treatment and made it through without even coming close to a crisis would it really be that necessary in his case to double dose in times of stress and illness?
Thanks for everything
Risty
