Don’t read if you don’t have a strong stomach(:>)

My son contracted Group B Strep and became seriously ill.  He was in the hospital for 28 days.   On about the 4th day, we were told to contact our family members and let them know that he might not make it through the night.  (They didn’t discover that he had CAH until about day 13).

Our Priest held my son as they took him off the respirator and he said it was a true miracle that he began to fight to survive.

In an attempt to find out why he was unable to fight off the infection he underwent 2 spinal taps and a medley of other tests that involved poking and prodding.  They also had to give him 3 transfusions.   The third one was due to his CIRCUMCISION which we were told he should have so that he would be less likely to develop infections.

Don’t worry, it was apparently an unusual circumstance and it doesn’t happen very often.   According to the ped endo it was due to the fact that he had been on oxygen for so long it dried out his skin.  It became almost like parchment paper.

After the doctor made the cut he couldn’t stop the bleeding because his skin wasn’t able to heal quickly enough. (Get ready, here comes the queasy part). Because they couldn’t stop the bleeding naturally, they decided that they needed to intervene with some kind of man made contraption.  They decided to CLAMP his penis for 20 minutes in order to give his body the time it needed to heal.

It was hard for the nurses to tell who was crying harder, my son or me, so they asked me to leave the room so they could finish up and start the transfusion.

To add insult to injury, this delayed his release date for another 2 days!! WHEW!!!! That was the longest 28 days of my life.

P.S.  He did finally heal and there doesn’t seem to be any ramifications due to the procedure.

P.P.S.  Forgive my rambling, it’s late and I’m tired.  Good night. (;>)  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
