AdinaHMark,
Congratulations on your new daughter and welcome to the board. It must be rough facing the world so young with such big tasks to handle. Good luck and keep the faith and stay strong. It’s best to encourage each other right now because I’m sure this is extra tough news for the both of you.
There is some archived information on the Prader scale, if you’re not sure how to access the archives, just ask in another posting, and someone will jump in and help you get to the archives. I would type what I have for you but it’s pretty lengthy. Just type in Prader on the search engine for the archives on this board and you’ll find some of the more recent info. Also, Kelly at http://www.caresfoundation.org might be able to give you more info on it if your urologist doesn’t have a copy of something he can give you. The CARES Foundation has a toll free number 1-866-227-3737 if that’s easier for you than internet.
The only person that will be able to exactly determine your daughter’s Prader level is her urologist. Her endocrinologist might be able to tell you as well. We were told that threes and fours are the most common.
The most important thing you need to educate yourself on now is making sure she is taking her meds on time every day, and that she has the right blood levels. This is very important because if she doesn’t receive the proper amount of medications her body will not be able to function. Make sure the endocrinologist gives you and your fiance proper training on what to do in an emergency, and how to triple dose her for fever, illness, or injury. This is very important.
It will all get easier with time. Enjoy your precious new baby.
Blessings,
AdinaH
