Hi,

I have a 5-year old with salt-wasting CAH who also has quite dramatic mood swings, especially in the morning. It seems to be related to blood sugar - once he eats something, he is much better able to manage. I have discussed this with the endo. and she suggested some dietary changes - more protein, fat, complex carbs. We are trying to be especially careful about bedtime snacks. Matthew’s blood work is perfect and we are very careful to spread his 3 doses 8 hours apart, so it doesn’t seem to be due to over or under-suppression. However, I like the other parents who have posted messages here, feel that it is somehow related to CAH because this behaviour is far from what I’ve seen in other kids.

Thanks about the suggestion of spreading the dose over 4, rather than 3, times during the day - I will talk to the endo. about this. I really think that all kids are different and therefore may need some modifications to the regular dosing schedules depending upon their own metabolism, physiology, etc.

We haven’t had any problems with blackheads.

It’s nice to be able to share experiences with other parents and get some advice.

Andrea
