Frustration....
Oct. 30th, 2003   6:47pm
Hi all. I have a 6 year old that has CAH due to 21 hydrox. (salt waster) Her levels have been well controlled all through the years. She was diagnosed with asthma in April, and started on a drug called, "Advair". She inhales this twice a day and it is a steriod. She takes Cortef pill form. Her levels were perfect when tested in June. In August they were WAY over surpressed. I felt this added steriod would alter her levels, but her endo. and asthma doc. didn’t think it would make a big difference. Well I think it did. Any one else on added steriods for asthma here? Is your levels off because of it? We are taking away a dose from her schedule. She is gaining weight and no height. Her bone age is 5 and a half. Clearly this is showing her oversupression. My frustration is this. Her endo. whom I trust with all my heart wants to elimidate her evening dose. Moving her afternoon dose to 4:30. He feels the body does not need cortisone in the evening. I give her, her first dose at 5:30 am. I know Cortef lasts in the body only 8 hours. I don’t like to have her without Cortef in her blood in case she gets sick in the middle of the night and does not have a dose under her belt to start fighting something off. I debated with him back and forth and decided to cut her afternoon dose in half and give the other half at night. What are your thoughts on this? I have heard of some dosing Cortef twice. She gets  her other inhaled steriod in the evening too. I am so frustrated because I do not know what is right and what is wrong anymore. I lost the info. sent to me with teh rythm methods of dosing. I wanted to see the chart in which a person without CAH has their cortisol needs in a regular day. Anyone have that still? Please help me sort through this please! She is so wild now. Behaved but wild. She has alwasy been active but now she is bouncing off the walls! Thanks!
