Oops...not having a good night on the board...my messages are either posting twice or disappearing before I post them...I’ll try again..

First, I wanted to say that that I agree with Carol about the dex affecting the baby’s levels. This is the reason for taking the dex..it crosses the placenta so as to get to the baby. In my situation, I stopped the dex early on because we found out it was boy.  In fact the perinatologist noted at my last ultrasound (about 35 weeks) that they baby’s adrenals were enlarged. He didn’t have any specific measurements to compare it to but he said that the by the mere fact that he could find them so easily and see them so well, led him to believe they were above normal in size.

To Carol about the ACTH stim test: I would think that the ACTH stim test would be a good tool to see how much cortisol blockage there is going on. Most babies that are diagnosed through CVS or amnio are diagnosed because they have a sibling or family history of CAH. I thought it would be useful to have an ACTH test done on my little guy to compare it with the one done on his brother after he was diagnosed through newborn screening.  I would say that if the baby is not expected to be a severe SW and he in not in any sign of crisis after he/she is born, then why not have an ACTH test done?
