re: What tests are necessary to determine if my child has Non Classical CAH?

Hi Sandy,

I would say you are wasting precious time. If your reg ped doesn’t know what to test for, why would you have him do the tests? I guess he could consult with a pediatric endo but why not just take him to one? I don’t think it would be too detrimental for your 3 yr old to miss school for a few hours or even for a day if it’s a long drive to the endo. At that age it’s usually just playtime they are missing out on.

The test is usually done in the morning and takes about an hour. I took my 5 and 8 yr old’s in to have an ACTH test after my youngest was diagnosed with SVCAH through newborn screening. I would say when you are dealing with CAH the best thing to do would be to go to a specialist. Eventually, your pediatrician would have to refer you to one anyway.

Good luck,

Sandra
