When and what will I say

I know that one day I will have to explain to my daughter everything about her CAH.  What I am wondering though, is how far into detail should I go? I know I will have to explain to her about her meds, and teach her how to watch for crisis, but what else do I tell her.  Do I tell her that we didn’t know if she was male or female for a week? Do I explain to her that she was born with ambiguous genitalia, and she had reconstructive surgery?  Also, when is the right time to tell her all of these things.  I know that it will all be very confusing and hard to take in, as I went through confusion and shock immediately following her birth. I am so worried that I won’t know how to tell her this, and it’s all going to come out wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Heather
