The other thing I should mention is, the more serious the CAH when the hormones start to slip, the higher the test levels. The higher those hormones, the more chance they will affect your childs aggressive behaviours. A child who has severe salt wasting CAH whose hormones have been allowed to get to massive uncontrolled levels will have more of an attitude than a normal average boy (if that child out of control is a boy) or higher levels than a midly affected child can be allowed to slip to. Levels that quite frankly can creep to the same levels and higher than the average male. That is not an ideal level for such a child to be at and because there is such a vast difference to which our children can be exposed where these hormones are concerned, and they act out and have different behaviours when they DO reach them, it is hard to say they should control themselves more. Who are we to say this anyway when we have frankly no clue what being in their shoes is like? You only have to look at studies on men taking pro hormones and how it affects them when they are taking such high levels to know it affects their mental behaviour--not just their level of strength. Even from one child to the next with CAH, they all have different levels of 17 OHp and test and may be exposed to far more than the average child whom is well controlled and is it their fault they have a slack Doctor that doesn’t go woth this theory? Not really. These hormones are tied very closely to aggression and assertive behaviour in studies. I feel it’s about time that was realised insstead of being swept under the carpet because if it where then Doctors would be far more conscientious about how they control such children.Anne-Marie
