Differing Brands of Dexamethasone

Folks - I ran across something interesting this week and thought of those of you who have taken Dex during pregnancy. Especially how some have had no problem and others have had terrible side effects. I have been taking the PAR brand of Dex for over 20 years - well I went to Costco to pick up my prescription and the pharmacist called me over to talk with him. He said they did not have the PAR brand as there was a hold from the company that manufactures them. He did have Roxanne brand and substituted them - he just wanted me to know they were a little different looking.

Well - I mean to tell you there was a huge difference for me - the Roxanne brand within one hour of taking them had me struggling to focus my eyes, staring off into space, feeling disassociated from everyone, a headache and double vision. I just thought I wasn’t feeling well for some reason. Well - I felt better as the day went on - next day - same thing, next day same thing - it got worse as the week went on. I went out of town for the holidays and didn’t have any extra left of the PAR brand - so I started calling pharmacies in the town I was visiting - the first three only had Roxanne brand - the fourth did have some PAR brand and gave me enough to make it through the weekend. Well - I get back to Costco in my home town tonight and they tell me they have one bottle left of the PAR brand - I go down there to get them and they only have 13 pills (26 days worth for me - unless I stress dose). They said they dont know when they will be able to get more.

I just wanted to mention this because I know some people have had a terrible time on Dex and others it wasn’t a big deal - I wonder if the drug manufacturer itself has been the difference. I’m really concerned about this problem in getting Dex - I guess it’s for all strengths. Does anyone know details? I dont know what I’ll do if I can’t get the PAR brand of Dex.....
