TeresaDear Worried Mom,
I have a daughter who’s now 19mths old and has Salt Wasting CAH. In the past 19mths we have (thankfully) only had to give her the solucortef injection once, when she was vomiting and wouldn’t keep down her hydrocortisone. I have spoken to so many adults with CAH who’ve never had an adrenal crisis and needed the injection. As long as soon as you notice either she’s got a temperature, is mildly unwell or is sick, you triple her hydrocortisone and give more often during the day and night until the symptoms have gone (or give 5 times if temp. is really high) , then hopefully you’ll never need to give her the injection. But always carry the solucortef with you and also extra hydrocortisone. The surgery is entirely the decision of you and your family. We have spent the last one and a half years searching the web, talking to people in our support group, looking at stats from past and present surgery etc,etc and after all this, deep down only you know what is best for your daughter. Make sure you do your homework re. the surgeon and hospital who do the surgery. The surgeon should totally specialise in CAH patients. Let me know if anything more can help with. Teresa
