re: Questions for Adults with CAH

Maggie - adrenals do tend to grow larger without medication - from what I’ve heard though they are rarely cancerous. I’m surprised he’s gotten along this well for this amount of time. I was diagnosed at age 19 (after a childhood of  CAH symptoms) and started on steroids then and there - I too didnt see the importance of taking them all the time and went periods of time without taking them. I eventually had an adrenal crisis and ended up in the hospital for 4 days. Then it happened again even when on medication (but too low of a dose) about 3 years later - another hospital stay. I finally figured out the dose I needed to take and have stuck to it (.375 of Dex) Anyway - I too had the stomach problems with Dex - BUT I was taking it at night and not taking food with it - I now take it in the morning (gives me much more energy and a lower dose as well) with food - and havent had problems - I even had my stomach scoped, etc - took Prevacid for a long time, etc. Going to morning dosings was the ticket for me and that way I wasnt tired by late afternoon either.

I wouldnt worry too much. I’m sure with some medication with food at the right times your husband will do much better.

Feel free to e-mail me if you’d like.
