Hi Aimee,
My adenomas (one on left and one on the right adrenal) were discovered during an episode of left sided flank pain 2 years ago. I was diagnosed 1 year ago at age 49 with LOCAH (although I had some symptoms I never sought medical attention which I am paying for now). I have never been treated for LOCAH because of other health issues. Steroids would probably due more harm then good. The reasons for the adenoma range from "we are not sure" to "it is possibly due to the adrenals overworking". For follow up they request a CT Scan as opposed to MRI. They say adrenal adenoma are not that rare, but unless they are "functioning adenomas" ie causing over secretion of hormones they are usually left alone(except when > 4cm). They say 30% of adenomas progress to 4cm. I have always wondered how many people with LOCAH have adenomas. I think it would be helpful for parents of young children to know if these are a result of poor treatment or poor control.Perhaps we could do an unofficial poll.
Good Luck
Marie
