Weight Training

I just wondered if any of the adults do strength training with weights and if they would stress dose for that?  I guess the women would I suppose, but the objective is different to cardio and instead of working at cardiovascular fitness you work at strength gains and building muscle, which as most of you will know requires being anabolic for growth a lot of the time in recovery after the training itself- and paying attention to diet such as higher protein intake.  Initially the cortisol levels would be boosted after a workout but normally your meant to confine your workout to 45-60 mins to avoid the cortisol levels creeping up to high as this opposes muscle growth.

I will certainly be guiding Ashley in that direction when he stops growing.  I’d like him to see his shorter height and ability to have the anabolism work for him in that respect as a distinct advantange over the disadvantages he has had.  I mean it is a lot easier to build mass over a small frame than it is to build it over a lanky large frame where guys are concerned.  Although it’s good to have cardiovascular fitness in amongst that, I worry that too much demand for that will throw hormone levels out to a great degree.  It’s like making a demand for something you cannot provide in the way of stress related hormone and unless you DO increase the steroid, I’d say it creates quite a period of anabolism thereafter.

I’m slowly getting all the equipment together now as I have got into this in a big way myself the last 12 months.  I feel stronger and fitter now than I ever have in my life actually.  I started off going to the gym but then bought my own free weights (dumbells and barbells) and have just purchased a work station (home gym) now this week.  Don’t envy the person putting it up lol, its cable for miles but I can’t wait to use that thing.  Ashley has shown an interest already-- in fact I am sure he would enjoy it as it involves a lot of tinkering with diet and pushing yourself to limits with weights.  I had to start lifting at home after a while as you get weird looks when you start swinging db’s above 10kg’s around at the gym as a woman.  lol.

I just thought you adults would benefit from something like that and wondered if you’d ever tried it?
