How long after a dose change should one expect to see a change.......

Hey all.  Just wondering.  My 7 year old SWCAH son has been very moody and sullen lately.  The last time he was like this, his 17ohp was off and he was on too much Cortef.  This time his labs came back with his 17OHP>2200.  We increased his dose hoping this would help suppress him better.  He was complaining of low energy and muscle aches and pains all the time.  The endo says we are to go back a month after being on the new dose for repeat labs and if we haven’t had any success, we might need to switch to a longer acting med like prednisone.  So, does anyone know how long after a med change one can expect to see relief from symptoms of over/under suppression.  And also, has anyone ever had their endo mention that their child might be a fast metabolizer and therefore may not be well suppressed on Cortef becasue it is not as long lasting as prednisone?  I am worried about a med shift since we have been on Cortef for so long.  Thanks in advance.
