For emergencies, my son’s doctor recommends the same dose as Toni’s....50 mg for kids under 50 lbs: 100 mg, for kids above. 

Re. rtcoakley’s comment about this dose being too LOW:  Generally, the Solu-Cortef Acto-vial contains 100 mg. of dry powder, and 2 cc’s of pre-measured diluent.  To get the full 100 mgs of medication, one would therefore have to inject the entire vial of mixed solution ( 2 cc’s of liquid).     

I am pretty certain that the 250 mg size of Solu-Cortef also comes with 2 cc’s of diluent.  Giving a child 1 cc’s of this strength Solu-Cortef would therefore mean that the child is getting 125 mg of medication.  In my opinion, 100 mg is comparable to 125 mg of medication (when talking about emergency situations), making these two doses roughly the same, not different.
