CarrieMy son had a stomach virus which started on Sat. afternoon. He had diarrhea and he vomited once. He continued to have diarrhea thru Sunday until about 5:00p.m. He would not eat, but he did drink. I called and talked to the endo. on call, and she said he sounded fine, but if he went 10 hrs without urinating to take him, or if he started vomitting. Monday morning he stayed with my mom, and I called my regular ped., and got basically the same response, so I stayed at work, but when I got home, I immediatly knew something wasn’t right; he was lethargic. I called the endo, and spoke with the nurse, and she said take him immediatly, and she even suggested I call and ambulance which I refused because he would be taken to the local hospital that is known for its ignorance. In fact a baby died there this past weekend from dehydration. I rushed him to the hospital and mid way there, the nurse called and said stop and give him the injection which we did. Once we got to the hospital he was talking and responding. He received I.V. fluids and we were sent home. He is much better. I felt like since he was keeping his meds. down and I was doubling them that he did need the shot, but I now know to just give it anytime he is weak like that. So anytime you even think you might should give the shot, give it.
