JanetD seemed to have answered all your questions but I just wanted to tell you that when my daughter went through the genitogram she was strapped to a board (it does SOUND awful when I read it here) but during her first one when she was just a few weeks old she actually fell asleep.  Thet echs that we worked with swaddled her with a blanket and then strapped the whole blanket in.  The second time just a few months ago (when she was about 13 months) she was strapped in but they let us put on jackets and hold her hand and rub her head and all that stuff.  She actuallyjust seemed to prefer it when she was all swddled and strapped because she just kind of gave in.
