re: When in doubt- give the shot- a lesson we would like to share!

This is one of my biggest pet peeves.   Since the only down side to giving the shot when not necessary is the child having a lot of energy, why not give the shot.  As I have always said, "there are NO DO OVERS once it’s too late".  This is simply a case of erring on the side of caution.  "When in doubt, get the shot out".

In September my sister was getting married and I was the maid of honor.  Everyone was coming to my house for a pre-wedding party.  Wouldn’t you know it, of all days ... that very morning my 7 year old son awoke with a fever of 104%.  He wasn’t throwing up and he didn’t have diarrhea but he was sweating profusely due to the fever.  He is a SEVERE salt waster and has always gone down very quickly.  My husband and I just knew that this would mean a trip to the ER and we were trying to figure out who would be taking our places in the wedding.

We had been through an adrenal crisis or five in the past so we knew there was no doubt that we had to give the shot.  We waited just a little bit to see if the triple dose would kick in but it made no apparent difference.

We gave the shot and went about packing for the trip to the hospital.  And, as with Tonia, within just about 10 minutes he came out of his room asking for something to eat and drink.  My sister thought it was nothing short of a miracle and began to cry.

As we watched my son dancing his little heart out on the dance floor we found it hard to believe that he had appeared so sick just a short while ago.

Later that night, as everyone was lifting there glasses to the bride and groom, my husband and I made a special little toast of our own "to The Shot".  Needless to say,  a good time was had by all.

Please, always err on the side of caution and give the shot. (:>)

I also believe that they should all get the flu shot seeing how sick it can make them.  This year so many, otherwise healthy,  children died from the flu can you imagine what it would do to a child with CAH?

Here’s to good health for all -- clink, clink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
