JudyI don’t change my sons meds when there is a sign of him getting sick. UNLESS, others in the house are sick with the flu and he begins to show signs of not feeling well. Then and only then do I double his dose. When he is actually sick with a 101 fever or higher then I triple his dosage of the Cortef. We do have an emergency shot of the solu-cortef but we have been instructed to use only once we have spoken with our endo (or endo on call). Speaking with and endo immediately at our Children’s Hospital in Boston has never been an issue. The emergency operator connects you directly to the doctor. There is no calling me back like a typical pediatrician would. We have only had to administer the shot once in his life and only once was he bad enough that we were advised to go to the emergency room.
Jose, If I may ask you a question or two.... the stage you are at in life, being in college, that is probably the time in my sons future that I am most concerned with. Let’s face it college can be fun and filled with some parting. I worry about him over doing it. I also worry about the crazy schedule that college can place on a student so I worry about him remembering his medication. Granted I have a few years still before his college days but it is something I do think about. Do you find it difficult to deal with or have these not been issues for you. I appreciate any input you can offer.
