Chris DHi Cassy,
I sort of had that feeling too. Like there might be something in this.
My son has an endo appt next Friday and I will ask his doc what he knows of this. I know many nutritional supplements have side effects, so I am reluctant to try anything without a dr’s consent. Also, I would like to test his levels if possible before giving him anything. I’ll keep you posted what his doc says.
I’ll type in what the book says, but it may be helpful for you to get a copy yourself so you get it all in context. There is quite a bit of information in it. You can find the title and author in my first message. What I am typing in is from page85.
For babies ". . . 100 to 200 milligrams of magnesium a day should help. You will soon know if the dose is too high because excess magnesium causes diarrhea. If that happens, simply cut back on the amount of magnesium, 50mg at a time, until his stools are normal again."
"Two inexpensive, easily available sources of magnesium are magnesium citrate and milk of magnesia: 100 mg of magnesium = 1/2 teaspoon of magnesium citrate, or 1/2 teaspoon of milk of magnesia."
"Add a tiny amount to his food at each feeding, making sure the total reaches 1/2 to 1 tsp a day but does not exceed that amount. Magnesium generally has a calming effect and enhances sleep, a bonus in both colic and behavioral problems."
He then goes on to talk about what to do long-term if the mag. seems to help. He recommends capsules and gives details on getting them.
Hope that helps. I am anxious to find out more about this - I’ll let you know what my son’s doc. says.
-Chris
