My fourth born son Kyle use to have a blankie (cellular and silk binding on the edge).  He would revolve the silk edge constantly through his fingers and pull it under his nose. You couldnt put it in the wash (even when he has cooties on it) because he would panick if it wern’t dry and ready for him at nap time or bed time.  I lost it once for a day and he was fretful the whole time and didn’t sleep well that night.  The next day we back tracked where we had been and found it on an old ladies fence draped there.  He was so pleased to get it back.  Eventually he swizzled it so much round and around that the silk edge became thread bear and frayed to nothing.  One day it just vanished and we have never seen it and he was ok with that.  He didn’t miss it at all after that.
