re: CAH and magnesium deficiency connection?

Hello Chris D,

I am a 26 year old woman living with CAH and I can tell you that there is a connection.  We need to supplement our diet with magnesium in order to better handle stress and also because (your pediatric endocrinologist may not have told you this yet) Decadron drains your body of magnesium too! It’s a double wammy!

A simple kids vitamin should do the trick for now, it did when i was a kid. Then in teen years and adulthood.  There are more stresses (college exams, paying bills, losing jobs, heartaches, break ups, working 8+ hrs/day, working out, etc....) and to better handle all of that I know I’ve had to take B complex vitamins and a high stress multivitamin.  It’s helped keep me out of the hospital for a long time.

Magnesium deficiency can be found through a urine test. Losing magnesium, sodium, and potassium are all signs of dehydration.  I know that’s how they tested me.

Hope this helps. Wishing you the best!

Caroline
