Susan A.Pennie - I have late-onset CAH. for me symptoms were early puberty, tall as a child - then I quit growing at age 11 (at 5’2"), a lot more hair growth than normal (long thick hair on backs of legs, and elsewhere) tired easily, got sick more often - especially strep throat - early acne, moody, anxious, tomboy (never played with neighbor girls, preferred the boys), muscular legs, wide shoulders, very small breasts. I never did get my period and at age 19 went for the first time to an endo and he tested me for CAH - I got chart notes later and he actually wrote a question of whether I was a hermaphrodite or not (which is laughable really).
Anyway - he started me on .5 of Dex (which years later I figured out was too much for me - my bones were losing density) and I’m now on .375 of Dex at age 44. The Dex did reverse a lot of the symptoms - almost all actually. I was able to have my daughter when I was 27 (though never got pregnant again). I have very regular periods. Have led a somewhat normal life - just have to stress dose when I’m feeling my cortisol is low. I’m happy and except for the CAH and some thyroid problems I’m really healthy.
