re: Sleep and night terrors

Cherry,

My 3-year-old non-CAH daughter has night terrors.  There was a time frame of about 2 to 3 months where she would have them about 3 or more times a week. Now she only has them when she is overly tired.  With a night terror, the child doesn’t know what is going on -- you will be unable to wake them or comfort them, even though by the crying that is what you think you should be doing. Unfortunately you just have to wait it out.  Ruthie’s would last anywhere from 15 to 40 minutes.

Both of my girls (5 & 3), for the most part do sleep through the night. My rule is that they must start in their own beds.  They share a room and I have to sit between the beds until they are asleep (the 3-year-old doesn’t like to stay in bed :-). I have always told them that they can always come to mom’s (I’m single) bed if they are scared, etc.  This is now becoming a problem because there just isn’t enough room (standard size bed),  and I end up being the one who loses sleep. Anyway, once the weather warms up (i.e. no drafts on the floor), I’m going to have them start using their sleeping bags on my floor if they need me in the night.

I wish you luck!

Janet
