My son had night terrors for several years.  I would confirm what Janet says though, with night terrors the child does not ask for anything, they are not aware of even being up and in the morning will swear they didn’t wake up all night.  The child is in a frantic state though, seeming to see something frightening and being really terrified - all you can do is try and comfort them until they lie down and are calm again.

If a child is asking for drinks/food/comforts, they are not experiencing a night terror.  It is hard to train a child to stay in their own bed at night, especially when they are crying for attention.  I had the same problem with my non CAH daughter but had to eventually be firm and leave her (after quickly checking she did not really need anything and only offering water).  After a few nights, once she knew she was not going to get her own way, the habit was broken and she started sleeping through the night.  I think it is called being cruel to be kind!  Not easy but it works, so it is worth persevering!
