Tonia, I feel your pain!!   I can’t say that I ever had kidney stones, but I sure had gall stones!  As a matter of fact, it was at my first ultra sound (six weeks pregnant) with my CAH son that they actually found the stone first and then my son.  By the time I gave birth to him there were so many stones that I was having attacks every other day.  My son was less than 2 months old when one of the stones got "stuck".  The pain was right up there with labor pain except there was no real reward at the end.(:>)

That was the last straw!  My husband rushed me into the hospital and I had emergency gall bladder surgery the very next day.  They said that they had  never seen a gall bladder get that bad in such a relatively short time (11 months).

When I gave birth to my first born I had a fibroidal tumor which wrapped around the ureter on my left kidney.  Due to the pain they thought it was a kidney stone so they pumped me full of 20 liters of fluid hoping to flush it out.  Because the ureter was unable to clear itself I suffered hydronephrosis of the kidney and nearly lost it altogether.

They had me on so much morphine it wasn’t funny and I still felt substantial pain.  I can only imagine what you must be going through.  All that pain and still having to be a mother to your children!  Have they talked to you about the latest proceedure which entails zapping them with a high frequency ultrasound (or something like that) so that they break down and are a little easier (therefor less painful) to pass.

I don’t know if they gave you any food restrictions, but with the gall bladder I was to avoid foods with a high fat content.  That was due to the fact that the gall bladder is responsible for releasing enzymes that help to break down fatty substances.  I still have to watch what I eat, but I don’t have stones anymore.  For me it was a worth while trade off.

I would go on the net and search out articles on the latest proceedures for treating kidney stones and then present those options to your nephrologist.

I wish you the best of luck.  Keep us posted.
