re: does a too high a dose of HCT cause hunger and restlessness???
Feb. 10th, 2004   7:51am

My son will be 9 on Thursday but I do remember very well how hungry he was all the time when he was a baby.  I felt like I couldn’t even take a shower because he was always ready to "eat again".  I discussed it with the doctor and she did tell me it was the Cortef.  She said that it will make them more hungry.  But that like all of us he was going to need to learn to control his hunger.  He did great weight wise until about two years ago.  He has started really packing the weight on.  24lbs in 2 years.  He does like his food.  But ..... we have (since August) really watched what he eats.  We are doing this throughout the family, as to not single him out.  Eating healthier is not going to hurt any of us.  We also took him off the lunch program at school.  When he started school was when the weight started to pack on.  We also have him on the tread mill for 20 minutes every morning (Monday - Friday) and every evening (Monday - Thursday).  We saw the doctor in August and then again in December and he didn’t put an ounce on so we have been continuing with this and hopefully when we see her again in April he will have stayed the same.  The goal is for him to not put anything on for awhile now so he can catch up.  He’s not extremely overweight but we want to change the behavior now before it gets out of control.

As for his sleeping he was and still is a great sleeper.  I would however, and this is just my opinion, caution you about changing the evening dose without discussing with your doctor.  It’s my understanding that the adrenal gland shuts down around 3:00 am and that is why the evening dose is always the higher one in the day so as to carry them longer before getting the AM dose.

Best of luck
