MargaretHi,
Our son who is a NSWCAH used to get the same symptoms when he was younger. As he also got the shakes, I "treated" it by giving him something to eat, usually a small chocolate bar, followed by a p/nut butter sandwich (similar to what insulin dependent diabetics eat when they are hypoglycemic). Our specialist said this was okay to do and it did seem to work.
I don’t know whether it was a coincidence, or just better dosing, but the symptoms didn’t happen as often, after he turned 10. He is a teenager now, on maitenance dosing, and only occasionally gets the headaches. Now he has something to eat and takes a paracetamol tablet.
