response to Angie about meds "wearing off"

Hi Angie,

This thread is getting a little unruly. I may have started a tangent here.

I’m not sure if you were talking to me, but I was the one who posted that I can tell when my son’s Cortef is wearing off.

First, the caveat, I don’t have any medical "proof" this is just my observation.

From the time my son was very young I noticed that between 4-5 hours after his dose of cortef he would get tired, edgy and moody - irritable and a little out of control.  He would act the way that I feel when my blood sugar is out of wack. I  found that a high protein snack helped get him right again. For many years I chalked it up to him being hungry too frequently.

Then, when we switched to 4x a day dosing I noticed this very rarely happened. It could be a coincidence, but he also now never goes more than 5 hours during the day without a dose. His appetite, energy and moods are now more level so I have concluded that his cortef was "wearing off" and the snacking was just recharging him enough to get through the cortef slump.

Hope that helps. Feel free to start another thread if you want to talk about this more.
