re: Length of time medication stays in system

Cheryl,

My son is a salt waster and his endo put him on the liquid hydrocortisone 3 times a day at .7 mg, which we give at 6:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 10:00 pm. He takes 2 florinef pills a day...one at 10:00 am and one at 10:00 pm. These are simply equal times between doses and his labs have come back perfect everytime. Not saying that this is what you should be doing because I know that different children need different schedules. My son is 6 m/o and measures in the 90 percentile of height and 50 percentile of weight (he’s had 2 bouts of a bad intestinal virus and a double ear infection in the past month, so his weight is kinda off at this point).

If you read most of these boards there is a method called Circadian dosing which distributes meds supposedly more evenly at certain times during the day. I’m going to ask my son’s endo about this method. Maybe you should, too. I do know the body makes cortisol at different levels during the day than at night and uses it differently, too. It’s certainly something to ask about.

Good luck in your search for a solution for your granddaughter.
