Visible side effects

Tonia asks "Besides the weight and height issues are there health benefits too?"

Height and weight are just the visible effects of oversuppression (or a poor dosing schedule).  While we all want our children to look healthy, it’s far more important to consider what’s happening below the surface.

Osteoporosis is a huge concern for most adult CAHers.  Long-term damage done to the reproductive system is another invisible problem.  Extra weight is hard on most of the body systems.  High cortisol is linked to many health problems.

It may seem vain to worry about our children’s height and weight, but those are the things we can see.  In my experience, growth and weight gain are good indicators of control and dosing effectiveness.  If your child is not growing, or is gaining extra weight, you may need to use a more effective dosing schedule.  4x a day Cortef, starting at 3am, worked wonders for our family.
