re: pregnancy and CAH

Hi Jackie,

I have SW-CAH, diagnosed at birth.  I am 39 and have 4 children.  I didn’t have any problem getting pregnant.

If your husband is NOT a carrier of CAH, then the worst that could happen is your child would be a carrier of CAH (as mine are).  I don’t know what other genetic disorders you may encounter.  If your husband is a carrier, then your child will have a 1 in 2 chance (50/50) chance of having CAH.

I take dexamethasone (have taken it since I was 19) and took it through all the pregnancies.  You will have to be monitored during pregnancy but moreso for making sure your levels are ok.  If your levels are ok, the baby should be ok.  I did have a few extra ultrasounds on SOME of my pregnancies, not all.

You only have to worry about taking extra dex to prevent virilization of a baby girl IF your husband is a carrier.

I hope I answered some of your questions.  If not, post again.  I have to go feed the tribe.

Good luck and I pray for your success.
