MeganThanks Gunjan and Carol for your responses.
Carol, have your doctors ever proffered a theory, as to why your son had the pneumonia before and just after diagnosis? I don’t know what you think, but it seems logical to me, that if the body is depleted in its production and circulation of cortisol then one would be open to all types of possibilities.
(TOL here) Are these symptoms in an undiagnosed/untreated CAH person due to lowered immunity or due to the fact that everything in one way or another in the body is affected by cortisol and eg. rashes are a manifestation of the need for more cortisol, in some circumstances, and the body is crying out for more? I know when I went off my steroid treatment in the ’90’s, I had patches of rashes everywhere, as well as, a recurrence/exacerbation of the lung problems I had had, prior to diagnosis. I also had other symptoms which all miraculously disappeared once I recommenced the steroids, although the specific CAH related symptoms took longer to settle down.
Or are all these problems due to some other genetic quirk, which accounts for the variations of experience in each individual?
